Your Candidate Experience with MercyAscot

The selection process may vary depending on the position you are applying for, but it will be similar to the following stages. The timelines below are a guide only, actual timeline vary depending on the volume of applications we receive per vacancy.

Step 1: Online Application

If you've seen a position you would like to apply for on our Current Vacancies, please take a few minutes to apply online. This won't take long and you will be asked to attach a copy of your CV. Just follow the steps in the online application – It's that easy!

Once this is done, you will receive an acknowledgement email letting you know we have received your application and it has been submitted for consideration. If you did not receive a confirmation email, please log into our Careers site and check that you have successfully submitted the application.

We endeavour to get in touch with all applicants either via phone or email as soon as possible after the vacancy’s closing date.

Step 2: Short-listing

If your skill-set and experience are suitable for the position on offer and you are short-listed for the position, you may be contacted by our Talent Acquisition team or the Hiring Manager to schedule an interview or discuss a few more details about your application.

Tip - Use this phone conversation as an opportunity to sell yourself and get through shortlisting to the interview stage.

Step 3: Interview

If your application is short-listed, you will be invited to attend an interview of no longer than 45-60 minutes. Don't be nervous about coming in to meet us since the interviewers may be anxious as well! You will be interviewed by the Hiring Manager and another senior person or a member of the Talent Acquisition team.

We will go through a combination of questions around the competencies and behaviours required for that specific role, in light of MercyAscot's culture, vision and values. You should give specific examples of how you behaved in certain situations – the STAR method is a good approach!

We always try to make you feel at ease during the discussion so that we can get to know you better (and you about us!). If your role requires a Children’s Worker Safety check, your written consent for us to carry out a police vet will also be sought at this time. There will be time for you to ask questions to gain a better understanding about both the position and our organisation. Before you leave your interview we’ll tell you when you can expect to hear from us.

In some instances, you may be invited in for a second interview to further discuss your application and suitability for the role.

Step 4: Assessments

Some positions may require you to complete a skills assessment and/or a psychometric assessment. This is not as scary as it sounds, it is an opportunity for us to further determine whether you are suited for the role on offer – for example, how you interact with others or handle pressure at work.

We use an independent provider for these assessments, which will be sent out via email for you to complete on line and send back to the Talent Acquisition team.

Step 5: Reference Checks

If you reach this stage in the process, you’re probably one of the top candidates for the role! You will be requested to provide details of 2-3 verbal referees, these should ideally be current/recent managers/supervisors to whom you have reported in the past five years.

Step 6: Employment Offer

If you have made it to this stage – Congratulations!

A conditional offer of employment will be made to you by either the Hiring Manager or our Talent Acquisition team, subject to satisfactory Children’s Worker Safety check, Criminal History check and Health clearance. Some positions may require a Credit check. You will be informed of everything you need to sort out before starting your new role.

Once you have accepted, your details will be gathered by our Talent Acquisition team to organise all the paperwork to be sent out to you. You should receive your electronic Employment Agreement via email within 5 working days of verbal offer.

In no time you will become a valued member of our team wink Welcome to MercyAscot!
